⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 1/2
A delightful collection of Indian fairy tales, that read like short stories, sprinkled with magic, karma and a whole heap of kindness.
Each beautifully intermingled story tells the tale of one ‘angel’, one not quite ‘normal’ being who comes to realize they are blessed with a power or a spirit compelled to release something deep and otherworldly, – a blessing that may heal or even harm, depending on the soul of the recipient.
The soul catcher, prophetic healer, truth seeker or rain maker – some of the many fascinating characters we meet, each combining an internal knowledge of an essential truth, grounded in ancient wisdoms held by the gods and now passed on to them as helpers of the sick, the suffering, and the true of heart, living under some of the poorest and most desperate conditions here on Earth.
As the healers learn the reach of their powers, they inevitably also learn of the cost – the burdens they bear and what they must give up in return.
As charming as it is darkly tragic in parts, the author deftly manages the very fine line for an overall read that is wonderfully satisfying and strangely uplifting.
A great big thank you to the author and the publisher for an arc of this book. All thoughts presented are my own.
