This adorable picture-book touched me.
With its simple rhyming prose, gentle watercolor images, and lovely message, reading this book (with a child, or as an adult with the child-in-you listening ) is like wading into a serene and calming lake – losing yourself to something eternal, something bigger and elemental, – something that in the end, is totally comforting.
Just like puppies (and who doesn’t like puppies?) we are all special, and different – starting out in life with nothing but a few simple needs and a whole lot of love to share.
“Yes, you like your little mousey,
And you like your little bone.
You like someone to hold you
So you never feel alone”
And that, in a nutshell, is enough. More than enough, to know that you are loved, and nourished and cared for, right now, for who and what you are.
No need to worry about tomorrow, and all the unknown, exciting things awaiting you. What you might learn, and become and what path you might choose.
And all that you need to do, just like every special puppy out there, is be yourself, living your days, and sharing your love with those around you. And it will be returned.
“Some dogs are good at fetching sticks
Or helping people see.
For guarding doors or working chores
But you bring love to me.”
As did this book – and I couldn’t help but love it back.
A warm and heart-lifting experience to share with any child – just because you can.
A great big thank you to NetGalley, the publisher and the author for an ARC of this book. All thoughts presented are my own.
