A pretty little book, pink and glowing (with gorgeous cover and book jacket artwork) that fits perfectly nestled in your hands. It has the feel of a journal, a small and private thing, where all will be revealed. And so it is. A memoir rich with the journaling, writing, channeling of the hurt, the hope, and the learnings of one woman and her forced and devastating marital breakup.
Written in a combination of poetry and prose, this book unfurls a see-saw of loss, of healing, and of hurting again, as the author struggles to make sense of the seemingly impossible.
How does one face head-on โthe wild unfolding of a love, of a life, of a family โ, and at the same time, somehow carve out a new (and healthy) identity as a single person? As hard as it is to imagine, this journey with the author makes the process appear somehow conceivable.
Opening her heart to the reader, with a candour that is also lyrical, the result is a read that is hard to put down. It is beautiful, yes, but it is also ultimately strangely comforting. As the author reveals the many layers surrounding her eventual divorce, after sixteen years of what she thought was a very happy marriage, we feel for her, and through the simple elegance of her words, we come to envisage her pain, and her journey, as we find ourselves sharing in her intimate transformation along with her.
A beautiful and heart-rending read, this book is recommended for readers of poetry, and/or memoirs, and other richly textured narratives that cannot help but spark emotional connections with another human heart.
A great big thank you to the author, her publicist and her publisher for an ARC of this book. All thoughts presented are my own.
