“Revenge is like honey. It doesn’t matter how long you leave it, it never goes bad.”
A rollercoaster of a thriller, with twists and turns, one of the chilliest heroines this reader has encountered, and an ending that not only offers resolution, but does so with a wry smile.
Jodie, our first-person narrator, is a sublime cook, cleaner and all around perfect housewife.
Without giving the plot away, Jody fears something is not right in her world, as she may in fact, have discovered a secret, (a dangerous one) at the hands of her new husband, the handsome (and twenty years older) wildly successful psychologist Dr Davies.
Jodie herself is a strange and even disturbing person, and an extremely unreliable narrator, with a set of behaviours that cannot help but indicate she is likely on the spectrum, or at least, could be considered neurodivergent. She’s also, in the eyes of this reader, hilarious (although she makes no attempt, or does not have even a basic understanding of the elements of humor).
Jodie’s story will unfold in stops and starts here, with surprises and a lot of suspense, as we learn more about her past, as well as her present situation, and her current life with the enigma that is Dr. Davies.
An engrossing read, that is so fast paced the pages will fly by, this book is recommended for lovers of suspense, domestic or otherwise, packed with characters and motives the reader must work to unscramble.
A great big thank you to Netgalley, the publisher and the author for an ARC of this book. All thoughts presented are my own.
