A quirky and delightful blend of espionage, action, and deep political intrigue with hints of James Bond meets Bruce Willis (!) meets John Le Carre, laced with nuggets of humor, and nestled in with a Canadian murder mystery featuring a strong female lead, a well-crafted team, a complex and intriguing plot, and enough psychological suspense, evolving relationships and back stories to leave a reader spellbound. (Whew, that’s a lot).

Detective Jamie Wallace, our main protagonist, is something of an enigma — a boxer with a temper, and an adoptive family that she continues to hold at arm’s length, Jamie is also a top-notch cop, who will absolutely not let go until her current case is solved.

Partnered sometimes with the instantly likeable Detective Charlie Pike, or the sartorial and harder to appreciate Detective Michel Tremblay, Jamie’s task is to solve a murder that appears to be related to a professional hit involving Russia, Canadian municipal politics, and the mind-numbing cash-cow that can be found to be commercial real-estate.

With a plot that unfolds at a snappy pace, this is an engrossing read with a satisfying ending that throws several unexpected punches. The first book that I have read by this talented author, these are characters that this reader, for one would definitely love to meet again.

A great big thank you to the author and the publisher for an ARC of this book. All thoughts presented are my own.
