What could be better than to be by the sea, the beaches with “long swathes of golden looking pebbles”, a glass of chilled wine, freshly baked “burek”, and the shimmer of the evening ahead of you – on holiday on the lovely Croatian island of Brac.
Or so it seems to actor Leonard Lupine, divorced father of two young boys, who, despite a successful and lucrative T.V. career as Detective D.I. Fierce, is finding his sad and lonely lifestyle is finally catching up with him.
The holiday in Croatia, as expected, brings joy and wonder into Leo’s life – gorgeous scenery, food, excursions and the breathtaking views from their cliffside villa – what he is not expecting, however, is the lovely tour guide, Isabella, who will change his life, and the life of his sons, forever.

Perfect summertime reading, this sweet and wistful book touched all the right spots for me, from the understated charm of the main characters, to the lovely exotic setting and the gentle pacing, followed by the thrills, mis-steps and magic of an unexpected whirlwind romance.
I read it with delight, the ultimate feel-good experience on an otherwise ho-hum day.
And just like Leo, here and now, I was happy.
