Interesting and suspenseful, this is my third read from this author, and one I enjoyed equally.
Diana Brewer, a beautiful seventeen year old, is dead. Murdered by an unknown assailant in a small close-knit community in Vermont. In a bit of an unusually supernatural twist, we meet Diana herself, in her first person POV voice (no longer embodied), telling us her story, – or at least as much of it as she remembers.
We also meet a huge range of characters – friends, school-mates, work-mates, casual acquaintances, parents and neighbors of Diana – many of them mysteriously hiding secrets, and most of them telling their stories directly in a somewhat intimate third-person voice – as the author spins a tale of lust, love, youth and beauty, and how each may be misunderstood, thwarted, and squandered, and mostly, broken in a moment of thoughtless passion.
A recommended read for lovers of thrillers, this is a windy, intricate and engrossing tale, with a tricky ending this reader guessed, and still found satisfying and well-crafted.
A great big thank you to Netgalley, the author and the publisher for an ARC of this book. All thoughts presented are my own.
