(A strangely-timed themed review – just because – it’s always a good time to be thinking about Christmas!)
A bright and charming children’s picture book inspired by Dwayne, a real-life spur-thighed tortoise, who was a rescue from the SPCA by the author and her husband.
In this Christmas-themed adventure, Dwayne finds himself looking forward to his first Christmas, – a treat he has never experienced and one he understands to be a very special time for his new family.
As a Christmas surprise for his new parents, and with the help of his buddies , the three cats of the household, Dwayne is transformed, with antlers and a cloak, into “Dwaynedeer”, – a play-on-words identifying a silly-special costumed tortoise – that will delight and captivate little readers everywhere.
A colorful and pretty book, sure to elicit giggles from Rudolph-loving children as they make the connection, this little story will introduce readers to the world of a beautiful and unique pet, – (one they may not have much previous exposure to), in the form of a sweet little guy who is making new friends and is happy to share in a very magical experience with his new (and much loved) family.
A great big thank you to the author for an ARC of this book. All thoughts presented are my own.
